These are the items that can be found in my apartment’s kitchen cabinets…because who actually has a pantry in New York City?
I also list condiments that technically live in my refrigerator but that I still consider staples.
Feel free to add some or all of these items to your kitchen!
■ Salt & pepper
■ Olive oil/canola oil
■ Assorted vinegar (I have balsamic, white wine, rice wine but buy whatever you like!)
■ Low sodium soy sauce
■ Chicken broth
■ Whole wheat/brown rice pastas
■ Other grains (I love quinoa, brown rice and cous cous)
■ Spices (My favorites are red pepper flakes, oregano, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon and nutmeg)
■ Flour (Whole wheat and/or all purpose)
■ Baking soda & baking powder
■ Sugar (brown sugar and white sugar)
■ Vanilla extract
■ Honey
■ Nut butters
(I’m a bit obsessed so I have multiple flavors and varieties – cinnamon raisin peanut butter, almond butter, maple triple nut butter…you get the idea)
■ Assorted nuts
(keep them in the freezer if you aren’t going to use them right away so they don’t spoil)
■ Dried fruit
(raisins, cranberries – great for snacking, baking and topping oatmeal!)
■ Dijon mustard
■ Light mayonnaise
■ Favorite jarred tomato sauce
■ Hot sauce
■ Maple syrup
