North Fork Adventure - Part II

The adventure continues!  Scroll down to check out our day full of wine tasting on the North Fork.  After checking into our cozy bed & breakfast, we were out the door again exploring beaches…

and boats!

This is the harbor in Greenport and standing on the docks, you can see Shelter Island across the water.  Greenport is the cutest town…we were tempted by the different restaurants, ice cream shops and stores, but ended up here for an afternoon snack -

We had late dinner reservations so we figured some oysters & clams wouldn’t hurt our appetite.  :-)   We sat at the bar at Claudio’s and it was quite rowdy for 6 pm on a Saturday so I didn’t snap a picture but we split the “clam bar tease” - an assortment of raw oysters, clams and peel & eat boiled shrimp.

There we were eating fresh seafood, watching the bartender blend pina coladas and sitting out on the water…wait, am I in Long Island or at a tropical resort?

When it was time for dinner, we were transported back to New York while dining at The Frisky Oyster.  It was dimly lit, buzzing with loud music and there were tons of people waiting for tables.  Even with a reservation, we had to wait to be seated…but it was well worth it.

*apologizing in advance for the dark pictures*

A server immediately brought us a glass jug of ice water and a hunk of crusty bread, with a side of room temperature butter sprinkled with red sea salt.

Despite the restaurant being completely packed, the service was excellent.  Each time our water was slightly less than full, it was immediately refilled.

To start, we chose the “tomato fondue” appetizer which was a goat cheesey tomato sauce served with crostini for dipping…so delicious!

I was contemplating the seafood options for my entree but went in the complete opposite direction and chose the veal chop.

This was grilled perfectly and served on top of an asparagus panzanella salad and grilled ramps.  What are ramps you ask?  I asked the waitress the same exact question – they’re baby onions and they were tasty.

The bf chose the salmon which came with a “lobster hash”, sauteed potatoes and onions with giant chunks of lobster.  I snagged a taste.

Dessert was a few cocktails back at the bar at our bed & breakfast and we called it a night so we could take advantage of our complimentary morning meal the next day at our inn.

A trip to the North Fork truly feels like a vacation…and I am so lucky to actually be going on vacation tomorrow!  I’ll be blogging from Mexico for the next few days.  Fun fact: one of my major’s in college was Spanish but my speaking skills have gotten a little rusty.  I’m going to try to speak the native tongue as much as possible (and hopefully not completely embarrass myself).  For now, hasta luego!
